Description
A fine and evocative late 19th Century oil on canvas, depicting a rural countryside public house with figures and a horse and cart. Children and dogs are playing in the foreground, with a pair of women drinking on the cart or 'trap'. The overall composition has a feeling of general merriment and bucolic playfulness, and the artist has imparted a real sense of layered depth. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
In good condition overall for a picture of this age, including some even surface discolouration and scuffing to the edges. There are three small repairs to the canvas, that have been professionally restored. The canvas has been relined.
