Fine Framed Late 19th Century Oil - Pink and White Roses
Description
A remarkably fine late 19th or very early 20th Century still life study in oil, depicting pink and white roses in a tall glass bud vase, against a dark scarlet setting. The artist, although unknown, has instilled a sense of momentary elegance to the work, enhanced by the delicate form and material of the vase. The dramatic contrast in palette highlights the bright flower heads and the few fallen petals to the left, echoing the passage of time.
Handsomely presented in a dark gilt wood and composition frame with ornate acanthus strapwork and pronounced centre and corner ornamentation. Inner fabric slip and foliate running pattern.
Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
In very good condition, especially for a picture of this age. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. There is some light surface dirt, with some white speckles to the left side. The frame is in very good condition, with one small area of restoration to the lower right corner.
