A pair on interesting watercolours depicting The Marlborough. Depicting two figures mending flags and the poop deck of the ship. Both are inscribed and dated the 26th and 29th August 1884.
The Marlborough was an iron-built two-decked merchant sailing ship which disappeared in 1890. She was built by the firm of Robert Duncan and Co., Port Glasgow and launched in 1876. In 1884 a Captain Herd took over command and was aboard her at the time of her voyage from Lyttleton to London in 1890, when she disappeared without trace.
Monogrammed and Dated. On watercolour paper.The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and minor foxing.
