A military drummer, wearing the iconic 'pantalon rouge' of the French army, stands outside the gates to a Parisian park in this meticulously painted work by Eugene Chaperon (1857-1938). Signed and dated to the lower left. Well presented in a vintage gilt frame. On board.Condition
Overall the condition is very good for a picture of this age. Some slight discolouration. Some light black marks and losses to the paint on the right-hand side. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. Marks and scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography
Eugène Chaperon (1857-1938) was a Parisian painter and illustrator. He exhibited at the Société des Artistes Français from 1878, Georges Petit's, and, in 1923, the Exhibition of Military Painters. He was also an amateur actor, and performed at the Théâtre de la Porte-Saint-Martin and the Théâtre de l'Ambigu.
