A finely painted portrait depicting a man in an armoured breastplate by an unknown late-nineteenth, possibly early-twentieth century British artist. The sitter is depicted in profile, his features dramatically illuminated by warm chiaroscuro lighting. Well presented in a gilt frame. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Discolouration. Craquelure throughout, resulting in some small losses to the paint. Crack along the bottom edge of the frame which has been painted over, as well as other minor wear and scuffing.
