A sympathetic early 20th century oil portrait by the artist Claude Marks (act. 1899-1915). Gabrielle Le Marchand is captured in side profile, rendered with soft, diffused brushstrokes that imbue the work with a quietly intimate atmosphere. The painting is presented in an elaborate swept gilt frame and is signed to the lower left. Labelled verso with the sitter and artist's name. Dated 1908. On panel.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Light marks and minor abrasions to the surface. The gilt effect frame is in good condition with very little wear. Overall the portrait presented in very good condition.
