A charming 19th Century oil painting depicting a pauper boy drinking from a public water fountain. The boy with no shoes and a red necktie, carries a small satchel on his shoulder. The artist captures the scene with a heavily applied paint, conveying the rustic nature of the rural village street. Unsigned. Well presented in a fluted gilt frame with a laurel and berry running pattern and a gilt slip. On canvas.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is some craquelure to the surface. There have been some small areas of restoration to the surface of the painting.
