Fine craquelure throughout. There is a small split to the upper right of the panel. Inspection under UV light reveals small areas of restoration. Overall the artwork is in good condition for its age. Light wear to the frame, however, overall the frame is in fine condition.

Elchanon Leonardus Verveer (1826–1900) was a Dutch painter, draughtsman, and illustrator born in The Hague. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and became known for his genre scenes depicting everyday life, particularly the fishing communities of Scheveningen. Associated with the Romantic tradition, his work often portrayed intimate moments of coastal life. Verveer was also a member of the artists’ society Pulchri Studio and remained active in The Hague until his death in 1900.
