An exquisite item overall, this turn of the Century oil view of Venice echoes the colours and lighting of Canaletto, with similar proportions of the board. The frame is just as much of a triumph as the painting, with highly decorative and delicate low relief embossed detailing which has been hand gilded and picked out in a blue and red. The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is scuffing and some very small losses to the paint in the sky area. The frame has some tarnishing and wear to the paint and gilt. There are some losses to the embossed plaster work and corners.
