A delightful early 19th century oil depicting an angelic Christ child surrounded by Arma Christi - 'weapons of Christ'. The soft, luminous rendering of Christ against rich velvety textures conveys an air of reverence, whilst the symbolism of the Arma Christi invites the viewer to reflect upon his journey. Unsigned. Well presented in a gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

There is craquelure and abrasions to the surface as well as small areas of loss throughout. The artwork has undergone previous restoration work, notably to the left arm. The canvas has been relined. Light wear to the frame.
