A striking portrait of the young poet Robert Burns in early 19th century dress, after the original by Alexander Nasmyth. His fine cornflower yellow waistcoat is buttoned to reveal a neatly tied cravat. The artist has captured his kind eyes wonderfully and they look out to the near distance. Presented in a simple wood frame. Signed to the lower right. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
The canvas has been relined and there have been areas of restoration. Notably a repaired tear to the left of the face. The work has been carried out to a high standard. Slight widening of the frame joints.
