A very fine late Victorian oil painting, featuring a still life of bamboo stalks in a Chinese blue and white vase. The still life is beautifully presented in a stunning period gilt frame with reeding and leaf and berry running decoration. This study brings to life the Victorian's passion for oriental ceramics, which were seen as extremely fashionable and belonging to the wealthy members of society. The painting is signed with the initials 'EB' to the lower right corner. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
In fine condition. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. The frame has some light wear and areas of minor restoration.
