Of the 212 plates in the original volume, 79 were by Picart's hand, with many others by a range of Dutch engravers working in Amsterdam at the time. Each is entitled in six different languages. These lavish, highly figurative illustrations represent the continued artistic accomplishments of the Netherlands in the 18th Century, decades on from the Dutch Golden Age.
