A finely painted and symbolic 18th century half length portrait of Christ wearing a woven crown of thorns. A bulrush to the left symbolises trust and faith in the Bible, while his red rope illustrates the prophecy that the Saviour will return. The religious portrait has been well presented in a gilt slip with wire hanger. Unsigned. On canvas laid to panel.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and craquelure to the surface of the oil. A small fragment of paint is missing to the right hand edge. Age related wear and scuffs present on the gilt slip.
