Cherith McKinstry - Large Original 1974 Oil. Large oil painting by a listed artist in a wooden frame. Signed 'Cherith, 1974' at lower edge. Signed and dated. On canvas on stretchers. Small paint loss to left arm, otherwise in fine condition.Cherith McKinstry (1928-2004) was born in a village in Worcestershire and studied at the Belfast College of Art with Terence Flanagan and lifelong friend Basil Blackshaw. Throughout her career she painted abstract, still life and figurative works, along with some sculpting in her earlier days, and is best known for her contribution to the Belfast Opera House where she painted six large panels for the building’s auditorium. Her art work takes influence from religion, themes of suffering and inhumanity and her travels to France and Italy. McKinstry exhibited regularly with the RHA throughout the 1990s and was awarded an Honorary MA from Queens University Belfast in 1987.For more information please click here.
