Artist Biography

Charles Burton (b.1929) was born at Treherbert near Rhondda in Wales. He studied at Cardiff School of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art. From 1956 he taught at Liverpool College of Art before moving to Glamorgan College of Education in 1970. His first solo exhibition was held at the Prospect Gallery, London in 1956. In 2004 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Glamorgan. His work is in the collections of the National Museum of Wales, Newport Art Gallery, Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, BBC Wales, Department of the Environment, and Brecknock Museum & Art Gallery.
