Identified on the reverse of the canvas as the Rue des Saules in Montmartre, Paris, this atmospheric street scene is captured with expressive brushwork and a muted palette. The street winds upwards between the buildings, drawing the viewer's eye towards the dark, solitary figure walking along the cobblestones. Signed to the lower left. Well presented in a vintage gilt frame with a canvas slip. On canvas on stretchers.
