Ancelin captures the movement and drama of a day at the races, displaying his mastery of the vibrant but highly refined technique of pochoir.
Charles Ancelin (1863-1940) was a French illustrator specialising in equestrian drawing, most notably horse racing, military equestrian, and trotting scenes rendered in the Art Deco style. He was most prolific during the early part of the 20th century, exhibiting widely from 1910 until the late 1920's when his style fell out of favour.
This energetic selection of Art Deco equestrian prints are still as captivating as the day they were printed. Scenes include horse jumping, polo matches and buggy driving.
