Description

An exciting study of two race horses jumping a hedge. Both jocky's wear brightly coloured riding jumpers and look eminently stylish. Signed in plate. Inscribed in graphite to the lower edge with the print number in the series. Published Galerie Lutetia On paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some very minor discolouration to the edges of the paper. Crease mark to the left hand side (approx. 10 cm long). Closed tear measuring 1cm to the lower edge.

Artist Biography

Charles Ancelin (1863-1940) was a French illustrator specialising in equestrian drawing, most notably horse racing, military equestrian, and trotting scenes rendered in the Art Deco style. He was most prolific during the early part of the 20th century, exhibiting widely from 1910 until the late 1920's when his style fell out of favour.
