Description

A fine 18th Century etching of a lunette by the French engraver Bernard Picart (1673-1733), depicting the moment Holland accepts peace and breaks away from Spain and Germany in 1678, after the original in Versailles by Charles Le Brun (1619-1690). The full inscription in French reads 'La Hollande accepte la paix, et se détache de l'espagne et de l'allemagne en 1678. Gravé par B. Picart d'après l'exquice de Charles le Brun, ce morceau fait l'autre bout de la Galerie de Versailles, au dessus de la Porte du Salon de la Paix'. Unsigned and inscribed. On laid.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and surface dirt. There is a small crease to the lower right area, but otherwise in good condition. The lunette has been closely cropped.
