A rustic oil view of Claverton Church on the hills surrounding the city of Bath in England. The muted palette and naive style make this a thoroughly charming object. The artist has signed and dated at the lower right edge, which has been obscured by the frame. The painting has been presented in an equally charming carved frame, with delicate columbine flower strap work and a gilt finish. There is a contemporary label at the reverse with information about the painting. On the back of the painting itself, under the backing board, is the original inscription by the artist reading "Claverton Church nr Bath. Barker 1888." On board.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and general surface dirt. The frame has small losses to all four corners and some tarnishing to the gilt. There is a small chip to the gilt at the upper left corner of the inner window.
