Attrib. Hedwig von Lepel-Gnitz (1850-1925) - Oil A Bearded Gentleman
Description
A finely executed portrait of a bearded gentleman dressed in a formal suit and hat, set against a dark, atmospheric background. The work is rendered with exceptional attention to detail, particularly in the treatment of the beard, where the artist has carefully scraped fine lines through the paint to create a textured, wiry effect. Dramatic chiaroscuro lighting highlights the sitter’s face, lending the composition a striking sense of depth. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some discolouration and craquelure. Slight warping to the lower right. Wear and paint loss around the edges of the canvas. Areas of overpainting.
