Large Late 19th Century Oil - Portrait of a Mother & Child

This intimate 19th-century portrait captures a tender moment between a mother and child, both engaged in reading an illustrated book. Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age. The painting has undergone previous restoration work. Small canvas tears have been repaired by relining and strengthening the back of the canvas. Inspection under UV light reveals minor overpainting to the front. Light abrasion and scratch marks visible across the surface of the composition. There is a small area of damage to the lower left quadrant and a small canvas tear near the mother's right-hand cheek. Small chips and light rubbing to the framing edges.
