A fine copy after a portrait by the Dutch artist Hans Memling (1430-1494). The original, now held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, formed a diptych with a portrait of an elderly woman. The pair were painted to preserve the couple's appearances as they neared the end of their lives. The work is well presented in an antique wooden frame. Unsigned. On copper.Condition
Discolouration to the surface. Area of craquelure to the righthand side, and some small losses to the paint around the edges. Marks, scuffs, and slight warping to the frame.
