An atmospheric watercolour landscape of trees and a lake attributed to English artist Edward Millington Synge (1860-1913). Areas of paint have been scratched away by the artist to give the impression of light reflecting on the lake. Gouache paint has also been applied in the foreground. Presented in a simple, modern wooden frame. We have attributed this painting to Edward Millington Synge due to the similarities in the style and handling when compared to other listed works by the artist. There is also an old inscription on the reverse reading: "Watercolour by P. M. Synge's father. Given to D.A.W Nov 78" - please see image of the reverse. Unsigned. On wove.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing to the sky. Otherwise in good condition.

Artist Biography
Edward Millington Synge was born in Great Malvern. After studying with Frank Short and Seymour Haden, Synge only became a full-artist in 1901, previously working as a land agent. He exhibited many etchings with the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers.
