The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration to the watercolour. There are a few small marks to the inner gilt slip. The overall condition of the artwork is very good.

Arthur Willett was born in Ewhurst, East Sussex, in 1857. He began his career as a gilder before transitioning to work as an artist based in Brighton. Willett was passionate about capturing the local landscape, spending his weekends cycling through the Sussex countryside to paint watercolor scenes of the area. In 1882, Arthur married Maria, and together they had five children. He continued his artistic pursuits throughout his life until his death on August 2nd, 1918. Arthur Willett is buried in Brighton and Preston Cemetery.
