A fine and delicately detailed watercolour landscape by the English listed artist Arthur Anderson Fraser (1861-1904), depicting Holywell Fen in Huntingdonshire, England. The artist has a proficiency for depicting the natural elements in the composition, with subtle reflections and shadowing. The male figure provides interest as well as a sense of movement in the scene. The artist chose to depict his local area, and the supreme natural beauty of the area is evident.
Well presented in a double card mount and distressed gilt effect wooden frame, as shown. Signed and inscribed verso. Monogrammed to the lower left, and dated 1889.
On watercolour paper.In very good condition overall, for a picture of this age. There is some even surface discolouration, light mount burn, and a small closed tear to the lower left corner.

Arthur Anderson Fraser (1861-1904) was a landscape painter in watercolour who was a member of the artistic Fraser family originally from Holywell in Bedfordshire. He was the son of army surgeon Dr Robert Winchester Fraser who settled in Bedford in 1861 and had six other sons and two daughters, many of whom took up painting. Other brothers of this painter who are known artists are Garden William Fraser (who signed paintings as W.F. Garden), George Gordon Fraser and Gilbert Baird Fraser. Arthur signed his work 'Arthur Anderson' to prevent confusion.
He painted angling scenes, mainly in watercolour and showed at Suffolk Street and at the New Society of Painters in Water Colours. He was reputedly also an accomplished cartoonist. Arthur Anderson Fraser was a member of the White Cockade Club and the Legitimist Jacobite League of Great Britain and Ireland, which hoped to depose Queen Victoria and reinstate the Stuart dynasty.
