Albert Kinsley RI RBA (1852-1945) was born in Hull, the son of a foreman in an ironworks, and like his father, he followed him into heavy industry and is recorded in the census of 1871 as a ‘Moulder in an Iron Works’. Yet, by 1881 he is listed as a landscape artist living in Tufnall Park, London. He was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 1896 and of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1889.
Kinsley was a prolific exhibitor and showed also at the Royal Cambrian Academy, Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Dudley Gallery, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, New Gallery, Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Royal Scottish Academy, Walker's Gallery and with the Yorkshire Union of Artists. A fine landscape by him is in the collection of Leeds City Art Gallery. On occasion, his first name is wrongly recorded as Alfred. His death was recorded in Edmonton, Middlesex.
