Albert Isidore Devos - Framed Early 20th Century Oil Portrait of a Fisherman
Description
A striking oil portrait by Albert Isidore Devos (1868–1950), depicting an elderly fisherman in a sou'wester hat and oilskin jacket. The composition places the subject against a muted, atmospheric background, whilst warm, earthy tones and confident brushwork capture both the weathered character of the sitter and the texture of his practical attire. Well presented in a large wooden frame with gilt slip. Signed upper left. On canvas.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Fine craquelure observed throughout. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of previous restoration. The gilt slip has minor surface wear. Slight separation at the frame's mitre joints. The canvas has slipped slightly within the frame (see top edge). Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
