Description
This intimate oil painting depicts a hunter in a red coat resting in a wooded landscape, accompanied by hunting dogs and the day's quarry of game birds scattered at his feet. The composition uses rich, earthy tones and dramatic chiaroscuro lighting to create a contemplative scene that captures a quiet moment during or after the hunt, emphasising the relationship between man, nature, and his canine companions. Well presented in a distressed gilt effect frame. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some craquelure to the surface. Two cracks in the canvas at the lower and upper edges, measuring 3cm each. Marks and scuffs to the frame, in keeping with the vintage condition.
