A captivating mid-nineteenth-century genre scene in the manner of David Teniers the Younger (1610-1690). A barmaid brings a jug and leg of ham to a table where two men are conversing. Various pots, baskets, and buckets are scattered around the cobbled floor, whilst distant figures can be seen in the room beyond through a doorway. Indistinctly signed and dated to the lower left. Well presented in an ornate gilt frame with floral running patterns. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Overall the condition is good. Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. Areas of overpainting. Some small losses to the frame.
