Description
A traveller settles his account with an innkeeper in this large Morland-esque genre scene from the nineteenth century. A young boy holds the reins of a white horse whilst leaning against a wooden trough. The figures stand outside a thatched inn, while rolling countryside recedes into the distance, punctuated by the spire of a distant church. The work is well presented in a gilt frame with beaded and lamb's tongue running patterns. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Overall, the condition is good for a picture of this age. Evidence of restorative work, including relining and areas of overpainting. Discolouration and craquelure throughout. Light wear to the frame.
