Description

A decorative watercolour by the artist Adolf Schill (1848-1911), featuring a fire burning in a brass stand, encircled by leafy foliage. The dates "1471-1528" are delicately painted along the upper edge of the composition, suggesting that this may be a design for a memorial to Albrecht Durer. Symmetrically arranged, the piece echoes the harmony and balance of classical architecture. Unsigned. Well presented behind glass in a gilt frame. On paper.

Condition

Light discolouration and foxing to the paper. Horizontal fold lines present. The frame shows signs of wear consistent with age, including stable cracking, chips, scuffs and indentations. The frame has been touched in with gold paint to the lower rail.
