This marvellously executed impressionist interior scene in oil captures an array of feeling and energy through the use of vibrant colour and carefully handled depth. The artist, A. Roland, has produced an aesthetically beautiful work, showing a round breakfast table with tablecloth, colourful painted chairs, flowers, fruit, wine and two contrasting views from each window.
Undoubtedly drawing on the approach of early 20th Century post-impressionists such as Vanessa Bell and Edouard Vuillard, Roland strikes a perfect balance with loose brushwork suggesting more complex pattern and form within the setting. A playful celebration of the medium, refinement is achieved through duality between the two pairs of fruit on the table, and the two views, one of sea and headland, and the other verdant with a neighbouring house.
Handsomely presented in an off-white lacquered wooden frame with inner distressed silver gilt beading, as shown.
Signed. On canvas board.In very good condition overall. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. There are some minor surface marks to the edges of the frame, and light scuffing to the corners.
