A busy 20th-century genre scene, evocative of the Dutch Golden Age where labourers heave wooden barrels onto a waiting cart whilst others move through the snow-laden, wintry landscape. Rendered in muted pastel hues, with soft, atmospheric brushwork. Unsigned. Beautifully presented in a swept gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Light scratches to the left of the canvas. There is a faint impression to the surface caused by the stretcher bars. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration. Overall the artwork is in very good condition for its age. The frame is in fine condition.
