19th Century Pastel - Mary Dicker
Description
This charming portrait depicts Mary Dicker as a middle aged woman wearing a mob cap that was particularly fashionable in the 1820's. She married Samuel Salter, founder of Samuel Salter and Co. Wollen Manufacturers in Trowbridge, a company that played a significant part in the successful cloth trade in the South West.
To the reverse a label from the original frame has been attached, reading: 'Mary Dicker, born May 13th 1793. Married Samuel Salter (brother of John Ebenezer). Trowbridge County Wiltshire. She married on the 2nd of July'. Unsigned. Well presented in a grey oval mount and glazed gilt effect frame.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration.
