Description

A delightful 18th century genre scene depicting hunters and their dogs pausing to rest beneath a soft, pastel-hued sky. The artist captures the movement of the moment, from the passing clouds overhead to the pacing of the tan coloured greyhound. Executed with fine brushwork, the composition is balanced, conveying both the energy of the hunt and a quiet, contemplative pause. Unsigned. Beautifully presented in a gilt frame with acanthus leaf and delicate beading. On panel.

Condition

Fine craquelure and small areas of overpainting throughout. Small losses to the paint layer noted to the upper left of the painting, as well as chips to the centre left and centre right. Fine splitting to the centre of the panel. Overall the artwork is in very good condition for its age. Some wear to the frame, including scuffs, chips and indentations throughout. The frame has been touched in with gold paint in areas. Overall the frame is in good condition for its age.
