W.J. Wall - Late 19th Century Oil Country Path
Description
A traditional and romantic landscape, with cottages and figures set in the English countryside. The handling recalls Constable – the soft, broken skies and the sense of a working landscape rather than a merely picturesque one. Signed lower right and well presented in a gilt-effect frame. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Fine craquelure observed throughout. Minor surface marks and abrasions. A light, even patina of age is present across the surface of the artwork. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of previous restoration. Various losses to the frame moulding/running pattern. The frame has minor surface wear and scuffs. Two small canvas tear repairs at the lower edge and left side. The artwork is in very good condition for its age.
