Description

A painting of two women sat among blossoming trees in an orchard in the Cumbrian village of Natland. Presented in a wash line mount and a distressed gilt-effect wooden frame. Signed to the lower-right edge. The title and name of the artist are printed on the lower edge of the mount. There is a label on the verso inscribed with the location. On watercolour paper.

Condition

There is some mild foxing and discolouration. There are some slight scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography

Winifred T. Brocklebank (1893-1963) was a painter of portraits, figures, and landscapes in oil and watercolour. Winifred Snell was the daughter of a monumental mason from Newlyn and married the artist William Brocklebank in 1926. She was a member of the Plymouth Society of Artists and exhibited in the 1950s. The contents of her studio were sold by Bonhams in Honiton in February 1991 with those of her husband.
