Captured in rich, painterly oils is this charming scene of a watermill, by British painter William Thornton Brocklebank. Signed to the lower right. Well presented in a painted gilt frame and cream coloured slip. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
The painting has undergone previous restoration with signs of over painting to the front. The canvas has also been relined and re-stretched. The picture frame is in a very good condition.

Artist Biography
Painter in oil, and sometimes watercolour, of landscapes, coastal scenes and flower still life pictures. William Thornton Brocklebank grew up in Kendal, was educated at the Royal Grammar School, Lancaster, and Cambridge University where he read Music and Religion. He served with the Royal Army Medical Corps in the World War I and in the early 1920’s, moved to Newlyn in Cornwall. There he met and married Winifred Snell, who also worked as an amateur artist. Many of his subjects were oil landscapes and coastal scenes in Cornwall and Devon. He was a member of the Plymouth Society of Artists and exhibited there in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Brocklebank had moved from Newlyn to Plymouth and he continued to paint until his death in 1970.
