This delightful scene depicts sailing vessels sailing by a harbour at sunset. The sun casts a warm glow over scene which is reflected in the calm waters. The two sailing barges in the foreground head towards the harbour at the end of a long day at sea. Signed and dated to the lower right. well presented in a glazed gilt frame with foliate details. Artist Biography
William Thomas N. Boyce was a painter, born at Blakeney, Norfolk. He is best known for his marine paintings and was a draper before turning to painting. Self-taught he appears to have only exhibited in the North East at venues such as the Bewick Art Club and the South Shields Art Club. He had nine sons of whom three, Herbert Walter, Albert Ernest and Norman Septimus also painted.
