Artist Biography
William Taylor Longmire (1841-1914) was a painter, born in Troutbeck, near Ambleside, Cumbria. Little is known of his life but he studied with a painter called Howe at Bowness in the Lake District. Following a childhood accident he became deaf at ten years of age but this did not prevent him leading a busy life painting many views of the Lake District. He appears to only have exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and locally and signed his work “Taylor Longmire”. Examples of his work are in Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne and in Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, Carlisle.
