Painter who studied at Edinburgh College of Art who developed a talent as a bird and animal painter as well as a landscape artist. Bill Johnson was married to artist Dorothy Nesbitt and together they formed a lasting friendship with Jessie King and her husband E. A. Taylor. By 1940 the Johnston’s had relocated to Kirkcudbright where Bill opened an arts and crafts gallery selling his own paintings and other painted wooden objects and ceramics. He exhibited with the Dumfries & Galloway Fine Art Society and at the Royal Scottish Academy and earlier in his career he assisted Robert Lorimer with decoration of the Scottish National War Memorial in Edinburgh. His work is held in the Stewartry Museum, Kirkcudbright.
