William James Boddy (1832-1911) was a watercolour painter, predominantly of architectural subjects. He was the son of an architect, and initially followed the same profession, moving to York in 1853 as assistant to George Jones. However, he soon built a flourishing practice as a drawing master. Boddy exhibited in York and London from 1865 to 1879. A folio of his work was presented to the Prince of Wales in 1900. For the last 25 years of his life he lived at Acomb, Yorkshire.
