The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. There is an area of minor damage to the substrate which has signs of restoration.

Oxford graduate in 1797, where a pupil of Malchair. Rector of Marsh Gibbon and Water Stratford, Bucks. Produced drawings and some watercolours, often using a black monochrome wash; he visited Wales in 1793 and 1795, and travelled on the continent in 1803-4, and again between 1815 - 18; he died in 1818, at Stowe. Most works by this amateur came originally from a group at the Walker Galleries in 1947 (see Iolo Williams, p. 93). His son was General Sir Henry William Barnard (qv). The father has traditionally had his first two names switched to become those of his son.
