A fine early 20th century watercolour from well listed and collected artist William Edward Croxford (1852-1926). Croxford was predominantly a painter of coastal scenes and fishermen, however he is also known for his quintessential English countryside studies, which often feature delicately painted figures approaching the viewer. This fine landscape study painted in lush green tones, depicts a young woman walking along a hillside, with thatched cottages in the background. Fine touches of white gouache pick out the light and draw the viewer into Croxford's' composition. Well presented in a double card mount and contemporary frame. Signed and dated, On watercolour paper.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and very minor foxing.

Artist Biography
Painter, born in Brentwood, Essex, he was predominantly a painter of coastal scenes and fishermen. He travelled extensively and lived in Hastings and later in Cornwall at Newlyn and St. Ives. He exhibited at the RA, RBA, ROI and FAS. He was the father of Grace Marie Croxford also an artist. A retrospective exhibition of his painting was held in Hayle, Cornwall in 1992.
