Willem Polderman (1913-1983) - Framed Mid 20th Century Oil Dutch Landscape

Description

A traditional landscape painting by Dutch artist Willem Polderman (1913-1983), painted in an old master style. Depicted in this rural scene are several figures on a public walkway, with a charming stone bridge and impressive copper beech tree. Inscribed landscape by Polderman to the reverse. The artist has signed to the lower right-hand corner, and the painting has been attractively presented in an antique style wood and gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

There is a faint scratch to the painting's surface just above the handrail of the bridge. Inspection under UV light reveals a small area of overpainting to the copper beech tree and right end of the bridge. Signs of wear and tear to the wooden frame include a chip to the top left-hand corner. However, the overall appearance of the painting is very good.

Artist Biography

Willem Polderman was born in Arnhem, the Netherlands and studied art at the local art school. He has held exhibitions in Arnhem and many towns in Holland and Germany where his work is in great demand. He is well known for his Dutch summer and winter landscapes, in which he incorporates lakes, rivers, and meadows. He also likes to paint forest scenes. His paintings excel because of their fine detail and good lights.
