W. Murray - Fine 1853 Watercolour Portrait of a Boy

Description

An accomplished mid 19th century watercolour depicting a fair-haired boy dressed in a smart blue jacket. Executed with fine brushwork and careful attention to detail, the portrait displays a confident hand and a sensitive treatment of the sitter’s features. The work is attractively presented behind a delicate verre églomisé mount and housed in a wooden frame. Signed 'W.Murray' and dated to the lower margin. On paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some discolouration to the paper. Light debris behind the glass. Some wear to the frame, including scuffs, chips and indentations. The right inner rail appears to have undergone previous restoration. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age.
