A striking watercolour portrait of young John Harrington in a fine black jacket with white linen shirt and regency brummel. The miniature study has been well presented in a period oval frame with floral cartouche decoration and foliate running patterns. Inscribed to the reverse in ink 'Self Portrait of her father. John Harrington, son of William & Elizabeth Harrington, born Feb 22nd 1792, died May 8th 1837, aged 45'. Unsigned. On paper.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and staining to the watercolour. The gilt-effect frame has had various repair work with areas of stable cracking still visible to the main oval.
