A fine scene in a humble cottage depicting a child and his grandfather playing a pipe and guitar together. The boy's mother smiles as she washes linen in the background. Presented glazed in a distressed gilt frame and a gold mount. Signed to the lower-left edge. On wove.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some mild foxing and discolouration. There are some scuffs, losses, and areas of restoration to the frame and some marks to the mount.

Artist Biography

Virgilio Colombo was an Italian painter of genre scenes, active in Milan in the 19th century. He participated in the Mostra Nazionale in Milan in 1886 with 'Merchant's Square'. He was also an art critic.
